A Twindian by any other name….

A Twindian by any other name….

May 1, 2007

As most of you know, we’re big fans of older bikes here at Guilty. Being associated with Kiwi Motorcycles and USChoppers helps us keep our heads on straight as they are emersed in the world of Indian and Board Trackers etc. Anyway, we were on the IndiansMotorbikes.com site recently and found this beauty and had to share with our readers! twindian3.jpgIt’s the Twindian, a twin engine 1916 Indian. One look at this and it shows what kind of cool work they were doing back then. It was built sometime in the 20′s by Bill Arnold who joined two 61 cubic inch 1916 PowerPlus engines together to make this unique V4, along with widening the gas and oil tanks to accommidate the extra engine. Apparently things worked as they should as Bill used it quite often before parking it. The story is interesting to read and shows how much work was done to make this a truely “One of a kind” bike. Makes you wonder how many treasures like this are sitting in old buildings/barns somewhere, waiting to be discovered. I think i’ll start digging around the old homesteads and see what i can dig up! To compare a recent build by our friend Mike at A-1 Cycles, take a look at his twin engine bike, “All In” which has received alot of press recently. Granted, it’s not as “nostalgic” as the 1916 Twindian, but that’s not the point here…it’s just as interesting, technically demanding and shows the creative minds of builders in our industry. a1cyclestwin.jpg
