Seems like it’s been a very productive and have to say insightful week here at Sturgis. I’ll probably be rambling with this post as there are a number of things i’m wanting to put out to the readers here. First, attendance. While it appears like numbers are down, we see alot of riders and activity in surrounding ares such as Spearfish, Deadwood, Lead and other cities. Is this a trend that is reflecting the desire of the people to get away from the commercialism, hoarding, crowds and BS that’s now Sturgis? Not sure. I did spend a very nice day in Deadwood, where the vendors were happy with foot traffic and sales, as well as the restaurants and hotels are busy.
Here’s something that struck some of us as we were watching riders here on Main Street….What is it with all these “riders” that are dragging their feet when leaving a stop and before stopping? Is this a sign of insecurity in their skills or inexperience? Doing such is not only dangerious but shows the level of that persons comfort with riding a bike, whether it’s a chopper, bobber or stock bike. Maybe they should go back and take some additional Motorcycle safety classes! It is amazing that with so many bikes present there aren’t more accidents here in Sturgis. We’ve heard it said that “angels watch over children and fools”. Hmmm, angels must be working overtime this week. Our friends Ted and Pam Smith pulled off another great Rats Hole show with not only some record entries, but some awesome bikes being represented. We’ve really enjoyed this show over the years and look to participate regularly with them. If you get a chance you have to go to one of their events to experience the professionalism as well as unique bikes that try to win that Big Rat Trophy. It really is great to have one in our showcase here at Guilty too.
While at Sturgis it isn’t all about just fun and food, bikes and babes. It’s also about business. During the week we were able to close some business with some new friends which resulted in a new sponsor, Gatorz.
You’ll be seeing the “Wardens” mug posing with some beauties shortly in various magazines, so don’t laugh too hard. We at Guilty are really excited about this partnership with Gatorz as they have a long history in the off road, Indy and Nascar industry and now they are heading into the motorcycle arena with some awesome high tech and stylish eyewear. Keep an eye out for the “Gatorz” chopper that Guilty will start shortly too. As Sturgis winds down, we can’t help but think about all the interesting (odd, strange, bizzaar, scary too) people and new friend we’ve made here. We have to admit that while it’s tiring and hot (100+ mind you!), the event has taken on a new meaning for us as we meet up with old friends and make new ones. If you’ve not made it to Sturgis before, try hard to do so in the next few years or so….you won’t regreat the experience and you won’t forget the people.
