Those Crazy Kids…

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

riding-over-fingers.jpgCall us crazy but i think we can find a better use for fingers than this. Seems the students from the Vanita Mahavidyalaya HS in India like to have their hands run over by a motorcycle so as to demonstrate their karate skills at the school’s annual sports day in Hyderabad. Wow, forget about those old fashioned “field trip” days!

Hey, thanks for coming back! Great to see there are a few of you out there that have taste and style! Seriously, thanks for visiting. If you know of stories you think people would be interested in, shoot us a line C'ya!

Rockmoto for everyone!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

rockmoto.jpgIf your not the type of person that spends time thinking about industry trends, economic forces, political manipulation, the economy etc., then this post won’t interest you a bit. However if your one that’s interested in knowing where the motorcycle industry is moving, you only need to look outside your front door, ride down the road, attend some bike night, read some magazines and go to events to see that “things are a changing brother!“. The younger market is taking hold of an industry that has been getting older by the day, and to some people, dying a slow death. Fortunately we have magazines such as Cycle Source, and events such as the Limpnicki Lot to remind us of the fact that the younger crowd (those that like motocross, skateboarding, surfing, mosh pits, rockabilly) is taking interest and getting involved in the motorcycle industry. And we say…Hurrah!!!!
Recently we ran across this group Rockmoto in MySpace, who are taking some bold moves to incorporate music and the motorcycle industry in a way to attract this younger demographic. What Rockmoto’s goal is to introduce more young people into the joys of motorcycling but using interactive and edgy content. The site, (yet to launch but taking your registrations now), will feature riding rock stars, information for new riders and the introduction of Rockmoto Radio will be through Pandora….(which we do have on our iPhone, thank you). Anyway, take a look, tell some friends and get with it dude(ttes).

Arm Drop Live!!

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Our friend Mike Beland over at A-1 Cycles has a new project he’s involved with. It’s called ArmDrop Live!! and features Rick Christensen of Speed Channel “Pinks: All Out” fame. Seems he was wanting to have a more active show that wasn’t inhibited by cameras so Rick and his brother Kent teamed up with Brian Bossone to produce. The concept? Well in Mike’s words:

“people drag racing their bikes duking it out for a custom motorcycle. Negotiating the race and out driving your opponent. High energy and NO fluff. Hardcore racers with a 20k prize on the line .

Sounds pretty cool to us!!! But before they go any further, they need people to express interest in the concept. So watch this video, go to the site and then vote whether you’d like to see this become a TV show. You can go HERE for the website to vote. You can check out their schedule on the website also and see where they will be over the next few months too.

Extreme Wheelchairing

Monday, November 17th, 2008

We know the “NextGen” are people that aren’t satisfied with the status quo. As a matter of fact, they take things to the next level in whatever arena they participate. We see that passion everyday in the motorcycling business as this generations interest and influences are affecting the way we do business as well as the type bikes being built. Here is an example that this generation isn’t just “settin around and waiting” for things to happen but rather “making it happen“.

Caption THAT!!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Ok, we’ll admit it….we’re bored. Not a lot of stuff going on here at the “Guilty Garage” except some builds and trying to figure out what we’re going to build next. So we figured we’d have some fun by including you (our faithful readers) in on some fun. And we’ll even throw in some FREE prizes (even move some stuff out of the shop we’re needing to get rid of too). So we’re starting a monthly “Caption THAT!” project. It’s pretty simple really. We’ll post a picture (see below) on the site and you can add whatever caption you want. The comments can be serious, funny, sarcastic, whatever. At an appointed time, we’ll pass the entries through the shop and the guys will decide which caption was vertical_crack_1_edited.jpgthe best and send the winner some free swag. Sound cool? Easy enough?! So, want to score some prizes? So, here goes. And remember, if you have pic’s you think would make a great “Caption THAT” feature, send it over.

Iron Horse Hotel’s Muffler Christmas Tree

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

davecook.jpgWhat’s better than a motorcycle under the tree on Christmas morning? Maybe a 13-foot tree itself made out of bike parts. The Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee has commissioned custom bike builder Dave Cook to create a Christmas tree out of mufflers for the hotel’s lobby. To give the tree some authenticity, the hotel is looking for mufflers with a history. So if you have a rusty, dented or discarded muffler and a story to tell, send it in and the hotel will enter you into a drawing. “We’re looking for straight slip-on mufflers, any make, any model and the older the better,” said Tim Dixon, owner of The Iron Horse Hotel. “Dents and scratches are welcome and a story on the muffler history would be great.”

To make it worth your while, the hotel will enter all donations into a drawing for the following:

Grand Prize: The Iron Horse Hotelâ„¢ Muffler Package
$1,000 package includes:
Two-night stay in a Custom Deluxe guest room with oversized shower (King or double Queen); two 60-minute massages; complimentary motorcycle storage or valet parking; dinner for two or in-room dining ($100 value, alcohol not included); $100 tab at Branded bar; check-in bag complete with The Iron Horse Hotel skull caps, sun screen and lip balm. Based on availability

2nd Prize: $250 gift certificate to The Iron Horse Hotel for all goods and services (gratuity not included; rooms based on availability)

3rd Prize: $100 tab at Branded, the hotel’s lobby bar

The tree itself will be a dramatic structure hand crafted from 287 mufflers by Dave Cook of Cook Custom Choppers. Dave has won numerous bike building competitions and has been the top-placing American in both the 2007 and 2008 World Championship of Custom Bike Building. The Milwaukee native has built motorcycles for such famed owners as Jay Allen, founder of The Broken Spoke Saloon, and his builds have appeared on many magazine covers.

Entries should include the entrant’s first and last name, mailing address, phone number and email address. Straight, slip-on mufflers and stories should be shipped to the following address:
Cook Customs
1400 E. Belleview Place
Milwaukee, WI 53211
ATTN: “XMAS MUFFLERS”

Once received, all mufflers and stories will be registered and a confirmation email acknowledging your entry into the drawing will be sent. All mufflers must be postmarked by November 15, 2008. Winning entries will be selected by random drawing on November 18, 2008, and winners will be notified by certified mail before November 30, 2008.

Designed with riders in mind, The Iron Horse Hotel features everything from covered motorcycle parking, rag bins and an on-site bike wash to check-in carts for transporting saddle bag contents, custom in-room hooks for hanging leathers and motorcycle shipping and receiving.

“The Iron Horse Hotel is all about an experience and this gives us a chance to make bikers a part of the story,” said Dixon.

Brass Balls Rolling Into Strokers Dallas

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

rickfairless.jpgDarwin Motorcycles signed Rick Fairless’ Strokers Dallas to carry the entire line of Brass Balls Bobbers & Choppers. The agreement was signed at the dealership during Strokers’ 13th Anniversary Party, which included three full days of live music, beer tub girls, cold beer, bikini bike wash, bikini contest and wet t-shirt contests. Dar Holdsworth, Brass Balls Bobbers’ Capo, had met with Fairless on a number of previous occasions but this agreement came together after the two custom bike designers met in Sturgis. “We are excited in joining forces with Rick and his team,” said Dar. “Our motorbikes represent the wide-open biker lifestyle and they fit in with the Strokers audience. We are expecting great success in this relationship.” Rick Fairless will carry the custom-production bobbers and choppers that utilize fuel efficient engines including the Harley-Davidson EVO, S&S motors, as well as a unique re-engineered Indian V-Plus engine.

Transporting Your Motorcycle

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

movingbike.jpgWhen we received a request for a “Guest Blogger” the other week we were a bit intrigued (ok, suprised…we thought only our family read this BLOG) as most emails to the GuiltyTruthBlog are for promoting a product (usually sex toys, viagra or mail order brides). So we were quite pleased when Ben Leffler submitted this article for our readers. And yes, while he’s with a company that ships, his post is authentic enough to warrant consideration when shipping that bike of yours, regardless of his affiliation. As he stated in his email to us

I work for uShip, an online shipping marketplace who specializes in motorcycle transport, and I am working on a brief with tips on shipping a motorcycle. I think this would definitely be of interest to your site’s audience. This is not an advertising post, just an objective piece on the topic….”

So, here it goes….and thanks Ben!
“The age of online purchases and frequent moves has created a number of scenarios that call for shipping a motorcycle via a professional moving company. Should the situation present itself to you, it is important that you choose wisely to make sure that the company you hire is competent, reliable and insured.

There are numerous motorcycle shipping companies, so finding one that services your area should not be a problem. However, before you hand over your cycle the first thing you should do is make sure that the carrier is registered with the Department of Transportation. Visit www.safersys.org and check the shipper’s DOT number to make sure they are licensed to ship motorcycles. While you are on the site you should also check the company’s insurance information and compare it with the information that the company provides you. Make sure that everything correlates before moving forward.

After you have verified that a shipping company is legal and insured, inquire about customer references. These are proof of the shipper’s experience and competence, so they should be able to provide you with several specific to motorcycles. You can also look up the company through the Better Business Bureau for more information on their history and records. Use your intuition during this process and don’t feel pressured to go with a specific company against your better judgment. Peace of mind should be part of the deal.

The last step in the selection process is to review all details of the shipment to make sure that you and the carrier are on the same page. Inquire about anything that you are unsure of, including pick-up and drop off procedures, payment/deposit structure and any policies or restrictions specific to the company.”

Pinstriping At It’s Best

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

stripe-3.jpgFor those of you that have cared to ask us about our background and hobbies, you’ve probably stood patiently around as we waxed memories about our days building custom hot-rods. Specifically our mid 50′s inspired trucks and cars. When we transitioned to motorcycles we brought that influence with us. There is one similarity though between the two markets and that is regardless of the engines/frames or wheels used, it’s the paint that always grabs the people. We hear it all the time. You can have one of the most demanding mechanical monsters around, but 9 out stripe-2.jpgof 10 people will say…”Cool paint job dude..!”. Granted, we appreciate those few that notice that rare engine, front-end or custom made exhaust…..so thanks to those 1%ers! Anyway, over the years we’ve used a number of stripers….(the most dependable being Darren from “Darren-Did-It Pinstriping” here in Orlando) and the most notable being George Sedak (painter/pinstriper for Evel Knievel). Another guy we’ve run across is a west coast guys named Eric Foust from Mindless Pinstriping. You can check out his work at his MySpace. Enjoy.
