You’ve got to love AMERICA!  We get a day to say “Thanks” to our veterans but also party to show our support of them!  The best of both worlds wouldn’t you say!?  So, while you’re enjoying the weekend and hoisting a brews (or twelve) in honor of the men and women in uniform, don’t fret about all the absurd politics and maneuvering we’re seeing, but rather just know that our protectors (soldiers) serve this great country of ours and they do it with distinction.

In order to give you some perspective on how we got here we do have to give a “nod” to the ancient Greeks for this democracy we enjoy as they gave this world a taste of democracy, and to the Romans who followed who set up a republic. We took a lot from their examples to get where we are today mind you so we also give thanks to English common law which helped to set Western civilization on the path to rule by law, not by men; and to the European philosophers during the Age of Enlightenment who expanded on that concept influencing our own Founding Fathers. Thanks to George Washington who had the moral courage and foresight to stand down his army and refuse to be a king once he won the American Revolution, a moment the world had rarely seen before. Kudos to Abraham Lincoln who shepherded this nation through one of its most trying times to make sure that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Regardless of your state of mind (in touch with reality or not) know that it has taken a lot of work by a lot of people to keep this country intact and the road is never an easy one. As imperfect as our leaders are and the challenges we as a nation face we still strive to realize this nations highest ideals. So forget about political parties and political philosophies for a day and celebrate the abstract ideals set forth so long ago.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

    Good Stuff! This Country is the greatest and the best because of our history of leaders and soldiers. Whether anyone likes them or not… its the reason we are free and can say, write, think anything we want. Thanks for saying it.
