Hitting Vegas

Hitting Vegas

Jun 18, 2011

I’m not a real fan of gambling and Vegas might be great for some, but clearly not for me.  We left Vegas late Wednesday night and apparently hotels outside of Vegas are frowned upon.  So we drove for at least 60 miles looking for a hotel.  Let me just give you the benefit of something I just learned, if there is a 2-car garage sized casino attached to your hotel, you might want to reconsider checking in.  If you have to check in at the casino “cage,”…..run!!!  I didn’t follow this simple logic when I was woke by Preston’s shreak “man squeal”  He apparently went to the bathroom only to find himself face to face with “Leatherback,”  (which is the casinos most vicious thick flying roach).  Preston prevailed, however he lost a toenail and a scarred up 3 knuckles in the battle.

We finally left the hotel/casino Thursday morning.  The town has a big “B” painted into the mountain.  I’m not sure what it stands for, but I claim it to be an abbreviation for “booty.”  (the towns name was Beautty or something like that.).  They also had an ass crossing (i could not make this up).  A sign on the highway with the picture of a donkey on it so you can keep an eye out for any ass that steps out in front of you.

We headed to Yosemite Village and right as we were arriving we ran into a closed road.  So we had to turn around and travel through the mountains for over 4 hours to reach Yosemite.  It was the best detour I’ve ever made.  Alyson and Alex were in shorts and flip flops, but we still got to play in the show.  65 degrees and playing in the snow.  You just can’t beat that.  They got to spend most of the day harassing me about my fear of heights as we squeezed around these tight little roads that push you to the edge of the 9,000 feet elevated mountains.  Some smart ellics passed us because of some great rush.  We were fortunate enough to see them pulled over taking photographs as a huge grizzly bear comes barreling out of the mountain toward them as it crossed between our two vehicles.  If I’m lying I’m dying, they got in their SUV and squealed out in such haste that we didn’t even pass them.  Now that was funny.

Tonight we’re staying on Sonora, California and Alyson, Alex and Preston will do Yosemite tomorrow and i’ll meet up with my fellow Stampeders in South Lake Tahoe.  I have a good bit of wrenching to do before I leave, but it should be a great adventure.  Stay tuned…
