While there may not be any actual “cowboys” in this picture, the spirit of one definitely lives at the Spirit Lake Polaris plant that is now rolling the new Indians off the line. While Polaris already has one motorcycle line to work with, Victory, they don’t seem too hesitant in tackling another line that will compete directly with H-D. While Victory will apparently continue to pursue the generic cruiser and touring crowds, it’s quite evident that the Indian line, as in the past, will go on the war path against Harley and hopefully grab a handful of scalps.
As we’ve said before, competition is good for any industry! Especially this industry! And especially in an industry where there is almost a monopoly…where when one particular manufacturer dictates what’s cool vs not. So, it’s time for the gloves to be raised and challenges thrown down. Which is what we’re hoping to see from the Polaris people and the Indian line specifically. So, lets watch as the lines are drawn and see how the battle between HD and Indian takes shape over the next few years. Should be interesting. BTW, the picture above is of the first Polaris produced Indian and it’s start of a long break-in and testing period starts.
