It’s always due to growth or change pretty much. And over the course of these past few years, we’ve enjoyed the journey we’ve undertaken in the motorcycle and blogging world. We’ve been blessed with making long term friends, had some awesome (and not so awesome) experiences, gone to places we otherwise would have missed and have learned more than we could ever have imagined. Yet, we find ourselves at a crossroad in our life. A crossroad that leads us out of the United States and onto a new phase of life, that doesn’t include motorcycles. One that will surely bring joy, challenges, growth and change. Thus with that said, we’ll be doing one of two things in the near future: putting this blog up for sale or shutting it down permanently. So, we wish our readers and followers the best of life. We regard your friendships as priceless and hope to see you out on the road someplace in this big world.

Something we’re really looking forward to for sure. However, with up to 45% import taxes levied on things we’d bring in, we’ve decided to liquidate as much as possible from our storehouse. So, we have a lot of equipment to sell here in SoCal. Here is a partial list: V-twin 93″ S&S engine, 3 rigid frames (yamaha, HD sporty/buell), vintage gas tanks, new/used tires, spoke/billet wheels, 6 speed transmission, BDL primaries, custom springer front end, air compressor, motorcycle lift, welder, table top grinder, custom fenders, seat pans, chopper shoxs, custom tail lights, etc. If your interested just shoot us an email for the complete list. Also have a vintage BSA and Honda cafe racer to move along as well.

The Sturgis Buffalo Chip party rocks hard from August 5-13. The Buffalo Chip rocks hard for a non-stop week of partying with some of the most legendary bands of all time with Stevie Nicks, Toby Keith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, STYX, Poison, Def Leppard, John Fogerty, Alice Cooper, Jeff Bridges and friends, Tesla, Pop Evil, Puddle of Mudd and many, many more. The Annual Legends Ride, the Ride that Rocks, will take place on August 8. The Official Buffalo Chip Challenge Bike will lead the charge in the Annual Legends Ride. The bike was custom built by Western Dakota Tech students with the help of master builder Mike Prugh and will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Proceeds from the bike sale and donations garnered from the Legends Ride go to local charities, making this event a feel-good ride all the way around.

This year’s 11th Annual Motorcycle as Art exhibition, “Slant Artist-An Eccentric View on Motorcycles and Art” will focus on avant-garde artist, Jeff Decker. Assembled by world-famous motorcycle photographer Michael Lichter, the exhibition captures the personal expression, creativity and spirit that permeate the history and culture of motorcycling.

In addition to Decker’s ten beautiful bronze sculptures, there will be a large and eclectic display of motorcycles and wall art culled from his personal collection, friends and other artists filling the 7,000 square foot gallery. Decker will be working on a new sculpture in the exhibit area.

There will be other spectacular bike shows you won’t want to miss. The Chip will be hosting the First Annual Buffalo Chip Badlands Victory Bike Show.
Also, The Legendary Buffalo Chip will host the first and only LED Bike Show and Parade in the history of the motorcycle industry during the 2011 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Sturgis Motorcycle Rally enthusiasts will light up the night in a showcase of custom dynamics. After the show, stick around as the owner of the most spectacular display is crowned champion on the Legendary Buffalo Chip main stage.

Lingerie for Life is an event in which lovely ladies wear 27 unique, one-of-a-kind bras to be auctioned with proceeds going to The American Cancer Society. The beautiful Budweiser Roadhouse bartenders will model the bras throughout the night and one will be auctioned at 8:15 p.m. and two more at 10 p.m. nightly. The bras will be delivered immediately after a bidder wins.

The Biker Belles festivities begin in the historic town of Deadwood at The Lodge of Deadwood followed by a beautiful, women’s-only ride to the Buffalo Chip for a reception on August 10. Attending will be renowned builder and land speed record holder Laura Klock, who will be selling raffle tickets for “SALT,” a special bike she built alongside the girls and young women of the Abbott House. Biker Belles was created to raise funds for Helping with Horsepower and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame.

The Limpnickie Lot will be set up at the West Gate. There are sure to be lot’s of burnouts and mayhem when these up and coming builders get together. They will have a ride in night time chopper show on Friday night followed by The Limpnickie Night in the main ampitheatre at the Chip that will feature Saving Abel, Puddle of Mudd and Tesla.

You know there is a nagging issue sticking us in the brain when we resort to writing about it! However with a recent “first hand experience” we had to ask ourselves the question: “when does customer service outweigh a companies own paranoia….Or does it ever“?
Case in point is the recent experience we had over something simple….the purchase of a AIC controller for our BMW Project (which has been featured here over the past 9 months). It seems that on the surface this would be a straight forward and somewhat painless process. Aka, they send us a form to complete (which we did) providing necessary data on the specs of the bike (aka, Injector size, vehicle fuel pressure, stock HP, Boost hp at 8 psi and 15 psi, Peak RPM, Turbo manufacturer and compressor map), then they ship, we install then tweak etc…etc. Oh, no sir! Not that simple at all. Seems this particular manufacturer has a penance for spewing out some rambling diatribe on why they are “not in the information business” and that “we do not have the time” to answer questions and that there are “more people out there with projects who want to know how to do things than there are people who want to buy things by a factor of 1000:1” and “We do not provide any info or specifications on how we do things“.

Apparently they have a total lack of customer service but also the delusional impression we as consumers are even remotely interested. Hate to break it to ya buddy but “We don’t give a damn“. We just want our #*%$!*# parts! Keep the drama to yourself. Anyway, suffice it to say we’ve moved on to another manufacturer with a more customer centric approach and willingness to sell us a product without any drama.

To those that have been in the motorcycle industry it’s a name associated with one legend that was larger than life, Evel Knievel. George was Evel’s “go to” painter during his career. Covering everything from helmets, harleys, signs and various other items he wanted tagged with the “EK” look. George has been painting for over 30 years now and while his direction has changed a bit over the years, (doing some canvas work) his passion and commitment to the industry of motorcycles has never waned. Thus the reason he spent time recently as a special guest of Harley-Davidson France at their 2011 Euro Festival in the Gulf of St. Tropez (aka French Riviera). George has given us a glimpse of this trip with this submission.

When I arrived to be a guest artist at the 2011 Euro Festival sponsored by Harley Davidson France, and got into the Citroen Limo in Nice, I had to pinch myself to be sure I was actually there. Having taken a friends advice and slept most of the way flying across the Atlantic, i was well rested and ready to go about the task at hand, which was to hand brush paint a 1979 XR-750 owned by Belgian bike builder, Fred Krugger. The goal was replicate the bike the way the early Evel Knievel jump bike looked. All this to be done in front of the spectators that were from all over Europe for the event. Not an easy task. (Note: Most of Evel’s stuff I painted during his career was done with candy paints, however this time, it was not possible to do outside in the crowd).

It was Charlie LeCache of Freeway Magazine and Kustom Magazine who was instrumental in making this trip happen for me and i owe them a hugh thanks for it too. While i was painting Kruggers bike I was also painting his ’70s circa Buco helmet to look like an early Evel Knievel helmet and it made a great pair.

Fortunately i did have enough time to walk around the resort area and check out the other displays and vendors from Europe, all the while Harleys kept rolling into the event with most of the riders wearing vests with their HOG chapter and what European countries they rode from. Man, it was a blast meeting bike builders, painters and artist and just some fun people that were all there to have a great time in a beautiful part of the world. There is one funny thing i do want to share with you though. The organizers outfitted me with a very nice tent and booth. And in the tent came a small fridge. Completely stocked! French style. The bottom was full of bottled water and a bottle of something I aint sure about. While the top was full of cheese. The big round ones! The ones that are covered with mold! So, each time that someone would open the door to get something to drink, I had to run out of the tent from the smell. Saturday night turned out to be the time to party so they cleared off my table and brought out the mold covered (but delicious) cheese, bunches of fresh baked french bread and loads of local wines. Wow, Then it dawned on me, all the bikers wearin’ there colors and no one’s drinking beer. Wine yes, but beer, no.

The french pinstripers are into their trade just like us and do some great work. What was nuts was how the French ride bikes. I was riding on a two lane road in slow moving traffic when I was passed by a scooter that was in my lane, and soon a few more came in my lane to go around both sides of the cars in front of us. After a while I started doing the same and found the drivers in cars expected it. Sure beat sitting in the traffic when I got into St Tropez traffic. (NOTE: George we do that here in SoCal too).
These French people are a warm and inviting people and seemed to like this American doing his own thing. In the morning, Charlie brought me Espresso and I had Croissants at my disposal too. It was a rush to watch the sun come up out of the Mediterranean Sea each morning. Hey, I live on the East Coast of the Mississippi River we don’t see this stuff often! When I finally had to say goodbye and boarded my flight I sat in my seat looking out over the Bay of St.Tropez, and I had to admit, I was a bit sad and thought, “I think Evel would’a been proud”.

We think he would have too George!. You can visit George Sedak website HERE.

Urgent Update from Stampede participant Harold Grissom:
Early this morning in Jefferson City, Missouri as i was going around a 360 degree ramp onto Hwy. 50 my back wheel hit some foreign substance. The bike spun 360 degrees and i ended up in the barracade. By the time the bike stopped spinning i had somehow jerked the beemer back up, cranked it and rode off. The handlebars are now so low you have to bend over the tank to reach them. There is a hole in the top of the tank along with a massively scraped up cylinder head. The brake lever is now positioned over the foot peg, etc. That bike is one tough SOB!!!! I’m in Salem, Illionois now and am OK, other than my busted up knee, pulled groin, aching back, neck, ribs….. Haha….In the wind baby! Stay tuned.
