Now it is possible to build a 1964½, 1965 or a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible from the wheels up using the new Ford-approved and officially licensed body shell. Ford says that the new Mustang body shells are made with stronger steel and use modern welding techniques, making them better than the original. “The 1964-66 Mustang is the most restored vintage vehicle. But the number of original 1964-66 vintage bodies is shrinking every year,” said Dennis Mondrach, Ford Restoration Parts licensing manager. “Most of the original Mustangs left in scrapyards are rusted or wrecked beyond repair. The new body shell is made of virgin metal and uses modern welding techniques. It comes rustproofed, and after final adjustment and finish preparation of the body panels, it is ready for painting and final assembly.”
A builder can restore the Mustang by using a completely new shell, powertrain, suspension, brakes, electric systems, interior and trim or have it transferred from an existing car to the new body. Original parts that can’t be reused from an old Mustang can be replaced with Ford-approved restoration parts. Ford-approved Mustang restoration parts can be found at www.fordrestorationparts.com. Ford will display a new 1965 Mustang body shell Tuesday at the 2011 SEMA Show in Vegas.
Nothing hits me like a good cup of Joe. Well, apparently there is a conspiracy to take my coffee drinking pleasure away, thanks to the efforts of a Harvard professor named David Edwards. Edwards has already plied his skills to taking the eating pleasures of chocolate lovers away by developing a “Chocolate Inhaler” called Le Whif. Now it seems Edwards has turned his attention to the world’s most widely consumed psychoactive drug – caffeine. The AeroShot Pure Energy delivers a fine powder containing vitamin B and 100 mg of caffeine that dissolves instantly in the mouth. (About the same amount of caffeine found in one large cup of coffee), but without the calories or coffee breath. The lipstick-sized cylindrical device works by pulling on the green end to open it then putting the other end in your mouth and gently puffing. Each AeroShot provides from six to eight puffs that can be taken at any time, anywhere. Initially, however, AeroShot will be limited to Boston and New York when it hit stores in January. AeroShot is being released by Breathable Foods, a Cambridge (USA)-based company established by Edwards and U.K. entrepreneur Tom Hadfield to “bring the aesthetic experience of aerosol cuisine to commercial markets.” The AeroShot meets TSA regulations so we’ll be seeing caffeine junkies puffin away on commercial flights at some point in the near future. Personally, i’m just a bit disconcerted about the visual of a bunch of guys/gals standing around their rides or at a party puffin on some lipstick sized cylindrical device. Maybe i’m old fashioned….give me a cup of Joe to go please. But, hey, i can see how it would work in a pinch as i’m running out the door for a meeting or whatever. So, guess it has some applications. What’s funny though is that now, someone can use the Le Whif and AeroShot, along with the AWOL, to enjoy some chocolate flavor, get themselves hammered, then try and sober up with a jolt of caffeine – all without a food or beverage actually passing their lips. Man, what’s the world coming to?

View This Poll For some of us the v-twin is a major part of our daily life here on earth. Maybe not something we want to admit but it’s true. So whether someone works in the industry, rides a bike with this engine or just sits and listens as one rides by, you have to admit its an amazingly sexy engine with its history, simplicity and sounds that are produced from them. For the uninitiated, the V Twin engine is a two-cylinder engine layout in which the cylinders form a “V”. The V-Twin engine’s pistons are aligned so that, if viewed along the line of the crankshaft, they appear to be in a V. The V configuration reduces the overall engine length and weight compared to an equivalent straight engine and it allows for optimum torque for a given displacement. An engine is classified as a V-type if there are two banks of cylinders attached to a single crankshaft. The cylinders are usually positioned at either 90 or 60 degree angles from each other. This block is shorter in length and height than a corresponding inline block of the same cylinder count and displacement. Because these engines use a short, strong crankshaft they are better suited to tolerating higher rotational speeds and higher torsional stresses. But we are off point here. We’re wanting to see what your most favorite engine is. So go ahead and vote.
Seen as a way to lessen traffic snarls or speed up traffic flow”. Ok, it’s my own definition, but you get the point….it’s something we all long to do, even if the local-yokals and/or state legislators can’t seem to understand it’s benefits. However don’t despair. There is hope on the horizon, or at least a bit of information that may assist you next time a cop pulls you over. “Honest officer, i’m doing it to save lives!”
According to a study published on the RidetoWork.org website, lane splitting DOES NOT raise risks of accidents out on our public streets, it actually lessens them. Seems Steve Guderian, a San Francisco-based rider and transportation safety guru, has published his findings after doing extensive research that shows it’s all about rear-end collision risks;

lane-splitting riders are less likely to be rammed from behind by a car, and they’re also less likely to run into the back of a car themselves.

Guderian backs up his findings by comparing accident statistics from California – (ok, I feel obligated to clarify that there isn’t a law AGAINST it in CA. The CHP has “lane splitting guidelines” (which are not laws). Generally, you must split lanes in a safe and prudent manner, not exceed the speed limit, go faster than 10mph than the surrounding traffic.) The numbers show that Californians are less likely to be hit or killed in a rear-end collision. (Granted we’re more likely to be hit by a stray bullet from some gang banger drive-by, but hey, this is about motorcycles, so who cares about a little dope or turf war?!) Anyway, Guderian explores the differences in collisions that occur while lane splitting to those that occur to vehicles within the traffic column. It’s one of the most powerful arguments we’ve seen for lane splitting. Check out the report for yourself by clicking HERE for his report.

Thus the beginning of one “Gypsy Biker Bedroll“. Don often tells people that the Gypsy Biker Bedroll is “a little past comfortable.” We’ll be seeing for sure once our own GBB hits the garage. Also according to Don, his bedrolls are not made for the rider who has an itinerary and hotel reservations. The Gypsy Biker Bedroll is made for the dude who is following the wind and “living the life.” He has no tent. He has no sleeping bag. He has the wind and a cold beer waiting someplace.
The history of Don’s bedroll started when he was a boy watching old black and white westerns. Every cowboy had a bedroll on his saddle but you seldom saw one open or be used. He figures sleeping cowboys did not make for good TV, but he knew they were an integral part of a smart cowboy’s pack. He decided to make a bedroll for himself. Don searched for a waterproof outer cover and settled on a 10oz. cotton duck tarp. (It is the same stuff farmers use to cover their tractors). He folded the tarp in half and fastened the bottom and half of one side with hand-driven copper rivets. For the rest of the side he attached silver snaps to close it up. He found a couple of Mexican-style blankets and placed them inside the folded tarp. Thus,the first Gypsy Biker Bedroll was born.
Rolled up, the Gypsy Biker Bedroll is around 8″ in diameter and 24″ in length. When unrolled, the bedroll is 4′ by 6′. That’s enough room to get the rest of your gear inside in case it rains. Finding success with his first bedroll, and discovering others on the road who were interested in one for themselves, Don decided to make them available for those souls with wandering spirits and no need for frills or luxury. You can use the Gypsy Biker Bedroll in all kinds of weather and for all kinds of things too, such as a pillow when rolled up. This is a product that you can expect to hand down from one generation to the next for sure. The Gypsy Biker Bedroll can be purchased for $150.00, which includes UPS shipping. If you have any questions, contact don directly as his blog. You can click HERE for his blog to order or email him at donwood223@yahoo.com and he’ll hook ya up. From what we’ve heard and seen from friends, the Gypsy Biker Bedroll is the best bedroll a biker can own.

Bill Warner of Wimauma, Fla., driving a turbocharged Suzuki motorcycle, became the fastest man on two wheels Sunday morning at the Loring Timing Association’s Land Speed Race at the former Loring Air Force Base. Warner’s world speed record of 311.945 miles per hour topped his record 273.356 set last year. “Today here at Loring we came to do some racing,” said Warner. “We were lucky enough to get a clean pass early this morning. The wind was down. We became the first motorcycle to go over 300 miles per hour.” What was it like at 300 miles per hour? “In this situation it was very calm,” Warner replied. “I progressed my speeds up from 180 all the way up to that speed over the past few years, so it was not a traumatic thing to do. “The big part of it, after the speed happens, is trying to stop the bike. Here at Loring Air Force Base, there is a mile shutdown to slow the vehicles down and I used every bit of it. The bike was bouncing, hopping, skipping and sliding. Needless to say, I got it stopped safely. It was a little scary.”
Oh, yeah, looking through games to play when i’m bored or too lazy to go for a ride or take the wife out.
Here’s a trivia game that incorporates the greatest invention of all time… the motorcycle. American Throttle is a fun change of pace among trivia games, providing a new experience for fans of the trivia game genre. This trivia game combines the excitement of motorcycling while testing players knowledge of movies, music, travel destinations and motorcycle history. The game is based on a “poker run” which takes each player on a ride around the United States, stopping at all the major rallies such as Sturgis, Laconia, Daytona, Four Corners and Laughlin. A friendly wager is placed in the “pot” area and after each player has picked their motorcycle game piece, the journey begins. When a rider enters a rally, he or she receives a poker card. The player to reach the Hollister rally first wins half the pot. After all riders have reached the end of their trip, the player with the best poker hand wins the other half of the pot. This trivia game includes two sets of trivia cards… each set having 300 questions means fans can play this game over and over without running into the same question twice. The “Two Wheeler Trivia” cards will test a rider’s knowledge of motorcycles in songs, movies, and other entertainment along with riding skills, poker, and travel destinations. The “What The Hell Is That?” cards will test each player visually when they have to know images and photos of road signs, tools, hand signals, motorcycle parts and accessories and travel destinations. You can check the game out HERE.

Last I left you, I had broken down in Fairfield, Illinois after dodging tornadoes. Ends up that Fairfield was a good bit off the beaten path of Hwy 50 due to my having to take country roads as escape routes from the tornadoes. Fairfield is a small rural town located in Wayne County, Illinois. I had never been there, but often on the road you experience new places and new things that will always stay dear to you. While one of my fellow Stampeders later had his bike pillaged and robbed as he slept in the bushes in Washington D.C., I was experiencing all the joys and pleasures of a small rural town back in time. If was as if I was in Mayberry, NC and loving every bit of it. I’m a country boy from rural Mississippi and there was a time when a person in need had all the support he needed to get back on his feet and make a go of it “on his own.” Notice, I said “on his own.” The problem in today’s world is that it seems that our new way of thinking is that we are “entitled” to something without the benefit of working for it. Often times you see folks expect something without even attempting to achieve it on their own. As a result, the truly needy do not get the quality help they need and the sorry free loaders that want something for nothing make it difficult for those that are really trying to make it on their own. This is not so in Fairfield, Illinois. Wayne County, Illinois is a place where they believe in helping those in need and giving them the chance to make it happen on their own with the communitie’s support.

While I was broke down on the side of the road you can only imagine my appearance. My beard was blown out, my clothes were torn and dirty and I was soaking wet. I was on a motorcycle that was odd looking to say the least. With that being said nearly EVERY person that passed offered to help. This includes women with children. The good people of this area have not forgotten who we (Americans), are supposed to be. One guy stopped and offered to help. The battery was going dead so he left to get jumper cables. I told him if someone came before he got back, I certainly appreciated his help. As expected, another fellow (Mark), stopped and offered to help. He didn’t have jumper cables, however the next fellow that stopped only lived down the road and he went and got jumpers and came back. Mark stayed with me as we tried to get the bike into town. This took about an hour with the bike continuing to die as it limped into Fairfield. Once there, I stayed in a hotel there in town called the Briarwood Inn. Tornado sirens were going off as I was checking in. They said another tornado had been spotted. I asked where Walmart was and it was only a mile up the road. So I started my walk to Walmart to get underwear and socks. One of the guys there in the parking lot would have nothing to do with it. He offered to give me a ride. I declined and continued to walk. He finally told me to get my ass in the truck. He exclaimed that it was no sense in me walking that he was taking me and wouldn’t take “no” as an answer. After a good nights sleep, the staff offered to let me keep my bike at their house out of the weather, they offered to take me to the nearest rental car location (over an hour away), they offered to take me to the nearest U-haul locatation, etc. My utmost thanks goes out to Dianna, Gayla and the rest of the staff at the Briarwood Inn. It took me back to being a child when people actually cared and put forth their best efforts to help others. After exhausting all my efforts to rent a U-Haul truck, get a one way rental, etc., I finally decided I might be better off buying a used truck to get me to the Smoke Out rally and then home. I got some good information on a good group of folks that would do me right and not take advantage of a bad situation. As a result, I contacted Gabe with Lemond Chevrolet Chrysler who sold me a 1994 Dodge truck (CD player with a cold AC), for $1,000. Not only did he sell me the truck at cost, he brought me a ramp and some fellows to help load the bike up! He also gave me the name of a potential buyer back in Mississippi. How cool is that? I will never forget Fairfield and the attitude that they exude in a time of entitlement and selfishness.

After I slept the night at the hotel and dealt with getting a rental, U-Haul and eventually bought the truck, I started my path to Rockingham, North Carolina. This was where the biker rally (The Smoke Out), was being held, but more importantly where the Stampede race concludes. The check in for the Stampede was at the Greenleafe Inn. As I rolled in at 4:00 a.m. I was the second to arrive. Charlie the Nomad (who rides like a wild man and has won the last three years), had just won the race and no others had appeared at this point. Congrats to Charlie…you are the man! Shortly thereafter, my friend Chris Price from Gulfport, Mississippi came in taking second place. Way to go Chris!!!! Of the 26 bikes that started the race, only about 14 finished. This was clearly the most demanding Stampede thus far. It was around 3,200 miles long and dealt with the worst weather of any Stampede. Regardless of the degree of difficulty, it was all about the ride and the path to Rockingham. While I’m disappointed that I didn’t “win” the race, I look back and understand that all of the Stampeders won. We all experienced moments in time that we will never forget. We got to experience the stories and the laughter of our journey once we all hooked up in Rockingham. Isn’t that what it’s all about? So whether it’s the Stampede, a bike rally, or you’re just kicking down the road on your scoot, remember how we all have so much to be thankful for and experience the making of memories. Find the Fairfields of this great country and bring a little bit of Fairfield back to your community.

It’s been a pleasure having the opportunity to do this blog. My thanks to Carl and Guilty Customs who makes some killer bikes (not to mention one of the baddest BMW baggers on the planet). You guys rock! Thanks a bunch and look forward to seeing you on the road!
