Sturgis Rally Tidbits!

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

We’ve gathers some information for those not familiar with the rally at Sturgis.  As well as those that are frequent visitors and wanted to educate themselves on where they are staying and what people are doing while in Sturgis.  This is random stuff so enjoy:

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, is a week-long happening every year in early August, hosted in Sturgis, SD, population 6,500. The rally has been held every year in Sturgis since 1938 with the exception of two years during WWII when gas rationing rules prevented recreational travel. Nine racers participated in the first rally, competing for $750 in prize money in front of a small crowd of racing enthusiasts who had paid 50 cents each for the experience. By 1960 attendance was 800, by 1970 that number had grown to 2,000, and in 2010, for the rally’s 70th anniversary, projections are for over 600,000 attendees. (more…)

Hey, thanks for coming back! Great to see there are a few of you out there that have taste and style! Seriously, thanks for visiting. If you know of stories you think people would be interested in, shoot us a line C'ya!

Motorcycle Cannonball Run

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Pope, Sears, Flying Merkel, Excelsior, Henderson, Indian, Triumph, and the Harley-Davidson’s Silent Grey Fellows. These are but a few of the vintage, pre-1916 motorcycles that will be thumping their way across these great United States for the Motorcycle Cannonball endurance run in September 10-26, 2010. Riders (a few we know personally) will virtually dip their tread in the salty waters of the East Coast’s Atlantic Ocean as the officials wave the green flag, then come to rest some 3,320 miles later, at the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean’s West Coast. Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Throughout the 2010 season the Limpnickie Lot has adopted a new practice under the  direction of Lisa Ballard called the “Limpnickie Lot Footprint” in order to give something back to each community they visit. These included pizza and skateboarding with Boys and Girls club Kids, food drives for local communities and several other interactions and we are pleased to announce the next step in this action. This year in Sturgis, there will be many footprints left behind from the Limpnickie Lot. Athena” Chickie” Vagabond will be working side by side with three high school bike builders, which happen to be all girls.  They competed through essay to win this once in a life time opportunity. The bike will be raffled off at the Broken Spoke Saloon downtown location. Be sure to stop by and support this great cause. (more…)

Remembering our Veterans

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Note: Growing up in the military (and having a brother and other family members deployed and currently serving) i am a strong supporter of our soldiers and empathetic with their families as well as understand our need as a nation to support them whenever and however we can!  This was contributed by James Schenck, an Army veteran and the president of the PenFed Foundation, a military support organization.

This Fourth of July, can you to join me in saluting the sacrifices of all veterans who served to defend our nation and remembering their contributions. While the nation reflects on sacrifices of veterans this Independence Day who did not return back from war, I also would like to salute members of the military who sacrificed in other ways.  From the Marine whose family is struggling financially due to multiple deployments, to the sailor who couldn’t buy her first house because she was overseas, to the soldier who is now relearning how to walk with his wife by his side and needs daycare for his young children: members of our military make sacrifices everyday that go unseen. Hoka Hey!?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Early on Monday June 28th at 4:20am local time, two riders (Frank Kelly from South Carolina and Will Barclay from Highland Beach, Florida) crossed the finish line (together) for the Hoka Hey Challenge in Homer Alaska.  It’s reported that these guys didn’t know each other until meeting at the last checkpoint on Sunday. So as not to be disqualified (speeding tickets) or have an accident, they opted to ride together across the finish line at the same time.  Hmmm, now is that even possible?  The next batch of riders scheduled to cross the finish line are at least one day behind these two finalist.  Both riders will need to still pass a drug test, a motorcycle inspection, polygraph and verification of gas receipts and road logs to be declared the winners of the $500k bounty. The war cry only the dedicated can shout and commit their life to.  So, are your ready, to say those words and ride into battle with other warriors as they put themselves on the line to find out just who you are and what your made of? Unfortunately, this year due to some issues beyond our control, this Guilty Guy, won’t be participating but will be thinking and praying for our friends and colleagues (you can follow Cycle Source’s participation HERE) that will be having an experience of a life time!  So here are the details from their site:

Former GNR Guitarist Hospitalized After Motorcycle Accident

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Anytime a fellow motorcycle rider is hit and/or killed by a motorist we as an industry are put on “notice” as to the frailty of life, (and the stupidity of some people). Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke was hospitalized after breaking his leg in a motorcycle accident shortly after attending the Easyriders show this past weekend in Pomona, CA. Gilby was struck by a motorist making a left hand turn in front of him in Los Angeles. The driver of the truck then left the scene. (Hope they find the slug!)

Clarke replaced Izzy Stradlin in Guns N’ Roses in November 1991, and remained with the band for the next three years. In addition to releasing several solos albums, he’s played with Heart, Nancy Sinatra, and the reformed MC5 on the group’s 2005 European tour, as well as other artists. He’s also produced such bands as L.A. Guns, Ladyjack, and Bullets and Octane, among others. Traci Guns, guitarist for L.A. Guns and a friend of Clarke’s,  in a Facebook posting said, “Gilby got nailed on his motorcycle last night (Jan. 10). His leg is broken in three places. I’m gonna try to go see him tonight – he will be ok.”
